Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We propose a new method for car drivers to help maintain alertness, which is based on a visual feedback of eye-gaze motion and arousal level. In the proposed method, the history of eye-gaze motion and arousal level are displayed using position, brightness and color of visual stimuli. Time courses of percentage of eye closure (PERCLOS) during viewing a car driving movie were investigated for 7 subjects in conditions with and without the visual feedback (FB). The time until mean PERCLOS >= 10% with FB was 926 [s], that was longer than 375 [s] without FB. These results suggest that the proposed method is effective to extend alertness.
