Abstract(in English) A waveguide optical isolator employing a nonreciprocal guided-radiation mode conversion is described. The optical isolator is comprised of a strip-loaded magneto-optic waveguide. Only backward-traveling TM modes can couple to TE radiation modes so that the device acts as a TM-mode optical isolator. Fabrication tolerance of waveguide parameters are discussed for the strip-loaded magneto-optic waveguide optical isolator and a rib waveguide optical isolator.
