Performance Evaluation on Localization Method based on Scattered Fields for Implant Medical Devices

Abstract(in English) Due to increasing demands for realization of advanced medical care, implant medical devices have so far attracted much attention. For such implant devices, in order to identify treatment position and control these devices inside a human body, it is important to accurately estimate the device location. There are some localization methods for implantable medical devices proposed in related works, however, almost all of them assume that the target devices have a function of wireless communication, so that, the existing localization methods should be inapplicable to implantable devices which do not have the ability of wireless communcation. Therefore we focused on a location estimation method using a microwave imaging technique, which makes use of scattered elds measured outside of the human body. In this study we propose a scattered elds-based method that can simultaneously estimate not only the location but also the electric constants of the human body. Then, we carry out computer simulations with a two-dimensional cross-sectional human body model to evaluate the performances of the proposed method.
