Abstract(in English) We report on experimental observation of terahertz emission and detection in a double graphene layer hetero structure which comprises of a thin h-BN tunnel-barrier layer sandwiched between two separately contacted graphene layers. The applied biases cause the inter-graphene-layer population inversion with the possibility of photon-assisted quantum mechanical resonant-tunneling transitions between the conduction bands and between valence bands of the two graphene layers. We demonstrate that this can be utilized for the realization of devices such as resonant terahertz emitters and detectors.
