| Abstract(in English) | In this paper, we report on a qualitative research about Japanese learners who successfully participated in Japanese society without formal education of the Japanese language, focusing on four Indian business persons, with whom we conducted semi-structured interviews. I analyzed the data gathered in terms of their social networking. Throughout their exposure to and experiences in the Japanese society, acquisition of the language and various social participation, they obtained abilities for cross-cultural adjustment adaptation ability, which had not been given proper status in language learning so far. These abilities were formed in relations to other participants in their surrounding communities. Different from typical Japanese learner experiences within schools, such as those based on buildup approach, all learners created independent and autonomous learning experiences without fixed order of acquisition or vocabulary restrictions. |
