Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Expressions in one language often do not have exactly corresponding expressions in another. Judicial interpretation has to deal inevitably with difficulties stemming from such lack of equivalents. This study focuses on how to handle an expression that triggers presupposition. I have examined the work of interpreters in a 2009 case in Japan and shown how truth-conditionally "not so wrong" translation may convey critically wrong information through presupposition.
