Abstract(in English) | In recent years,SDN technology in general and OpenFlow in particular have become widely used.Accordingly to maintain the quality of networks,real-time measurements of link performance by passive monitoring and/or active testing for OpenFlow networks have been studied as well. In this report, we propose a scheme to efficiently measure packet loss rate in each direction of every link in an OpenFlow network,aiming at a small number of measurement devices, a low traffic load to network, and a fast identification of lossy links.In our scheme, by utilizing OpenFlow's flexible routing,each test packet generated by a single measurement device runs along some extension of a multicast tree to cover all links but traverses each direction of each link only once. After a number of test packets run, the number of packets passing each point is collected using FlowStatsRequest/FlowStatsReply to compute the packet loss rate. We discussed the effectiveness of the proposed scheme, and also tested a proto-type system in a small OpenFlow network to demonstrate that the system can accurately count the number of lost packets in each individual direction of each link distinctively even when packet losses happen at multiple links. |
