Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) 【Objective】The number of schizophrenic patients in Japan is around 795 thousand and early detection and treatment would lead to long-term recovery. It is expected that quantitative evaluation of schizophrenic state through analyses of cerebral white matter integrity using nerve fiber tractography would help early detection of the disease. In order to clarify the physical fiber connections associated with disease specific neuronal circuits, we proposed an automated fiber tracking method using MR-DTIs and applied the method to schizophrenic patients.【Method】Based on a parcellation map that separating white matter into 54 regions, we proposed the following two methods. The first method automatically sets the starting surface of fiber tracking and the second method automatically rotates the surface. These methods were applied to MR-DTIs of 18 healthy controls and 18 schizophrenic patients. Next, we set 6 parameters (the number of fibers, the number of steps of fibers, the mean and standard deviation of FA, the mean and standard deviation of MD) for comparison between the two groups.【Result】Using two-way ANOVAs (Group / Hemisphere), we found significant differences in 17 white matters regions.【Conclusion】The possibility of identification of neural circuit that plays an important role about schizophrenia has been shown.
