Abstract(in English) | The auditory cortex has an important role for auditory processing in the brain. Although the auditory cortex has multi layers and sub-field structure, a little is known about the relationship between the structure and functions in the auditory processing. In the present study, using local field potential (LFP) recording and flavoprotein optical imaging, we respectively identified layers and cortical fields, and recorded auditory neural response in the targeted layers and fields. Calculating frequency response areas (FRAs) and spectro-temporal receptive fields (STRFs) enabled us to analyze the differences in auditory response properties among layers and/or fields. As a result, layer 2/3 (L2/3) had long latency and narrow frequency-band properties compared to those of layer 4 (L4), which is the recipient layer in the auditory cortex. Layer 5/6 (L5/6) had long latency and duration. In addition, AAF has high auditory threshold and narrow band property. These results indicate that the main information flow was in order of L4→L2/3→L5/6 and A1→AAF, accompanying with frequency extraction. Especially, L2/3 and L4 might be involved in interacting with other cortical fields. These results will help us to realize the auditory processing in the auditory cortex, taking into account the function of hierarchical laminar and sub-field structure. |
