Abstract(in English) | An arteriovenous (AV) fistula is often constructed in the forearm of the patient with chronic kidney failure for the hemodialysis treatment. To prevent its stenosis and occlusion, frequent maintenance of the fistula is essential. We have developed a simple and noninvasive technique to obtain transillumination images of the arteriovenous fistula using the light diffusely scattered in the body tissue. In this study, we investigated the possibility to detect the property change as well as the morphological change of the blood vessel in the AV fistula. When the stenosis or the occlusion occurs, the lipid deposition in the blood vessel progresses. In the experiment, a model of the blood vessel with varying lipid content was placed at 2-4 mm depth below the surface of muscle-simulated turbid medium. The transillumination images were obtained with the two wavelengths, or 800-810 nm and 930 nm. In the operation with the two images, we obtained the image of lipid content. The contrast of the blood vessel image increased with the increase in the lipid content. Through this analysis, the feasibility to visualize the vascular property change in the transillumination image of AV fistula was verified. |
