Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, usage of WLAN (Wireless LAN) by mobile devices is spreading rapidly. However, these mobile devices consume large amount of electricity when they communicate through WLAN, and their battery lifetime is shorten. However, IEEE 802.11 PSM (Power Saving Mode) cannot let wireless stations sleep in an optimal way and it increases the packet transfer delay to wireless stations. Therefore, we have proposed a power-saving method in which wireless stations sleep for NAV (Network Allocation Vector) duration set by a RTS/CTS handshake and NAV duration is extended by burst transmission within the acceptable delay of packets. In the previously proposed method, burst transmission for only downlink flows from an access point to wireless stations is designed. In this paper, based on this framework, bidirectional burst transmission is proposed so that efficient power saving with the suppression of packet transfer delay is achieved in WLANs with both downlink and uplink flows.
