Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A number of successful tone mapping operators for contrast compression have been proposed due to the need to visualize high dynamic range (HDR) images on low dynamic range devices. This paper proposes a novel inverse tone mapping operation (TMO) and its application. The proposed inverse TMO enables to reconstruct HDR images from LDR ones mapped by the Reinhard’s global operator, without keeping any parameters that were usedfor the forward TMO. Furthermore, It is applied to a new application in which first, the Reinhard’s global TMO is simply carried out on a terminal having low computational capability such as a smartphone, and then after the inverse TMO, a local TMO is done to generate well-detailed LDR images, on a terminal having high computational capability as a computer. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme by a number of simulations.
