Lightning protection of microwave radio equipment using Radio-over-Fiber technique

Abstract(in English) Microwave radio equipment is occasionally damaged by lightning because an antenna on a communication tower is connected to microwave radio equipment by waveguide directory. We have proposed a system configuration using radio over fiber (RoF) links instead of waveguides. In this report, newly developed antenna side O/E (optical/electrical), E/O (electrical/optical) converter box is introduced and results of bit error rate (BER) measurements using real radio equipment are also described.
