A proposal of the light field image compression and decompression using HEVC

Abstract(in English) A light field image is a type of images that can refocus and extend the depth of field by post processing. A light field raw image consists of multiple image blocks. Each image block has 75x75 pixels.The light field image commonly requires 4 times the resolution of the final images. However, The typical image compression technique for this type of data is not standardized. In this paper, Due to high correlation of neighbor images, Each group of adjacent images is considered as frames of video, we compressed these frames by HEVC. We achieved 69.5% bit saving which is 2.5% better than that of compression techniques for still image. We varied the size of the blocks of this frames, the differences of the ratio of bit saving for this image using proposal methods are within 1%. We applied the just same splitting image technique to the pseudo light field movie and varied the size of the blocks of this movie,the differences of the ratio of bit saving are also within 1%.
