Abstract(in English) Although GS-LD can easily generate optical short pulses having about 30ps of FWHM, the generated pulses cannot be used for optical communication purposes due to its large timing jitter and frequency chirp. This report discusses high quality optical short pulse generation based on the gain switching using “Self seeding-Optical Band Pass Filtering scheme”. Injection current tuning and optical spectrum shaping resulted in optical short pulses with small timing jitter and low frequency chirp. An error-free transmission over 30km SMF of 5Gbit/s RZ-PAM4 signals using the generated pulses is also demonstrated.
