A study of Accommodation Efficiency for Subcarrier-Aggregation Networks

Abstract(in English) Multicarrier transmission technique is the one of the promising approach to achieve high capacity transmission in future optical transport network. Plural wavelength channels are used as subcarriers to organize one optical path. Most of studies about multicarrier transmission discuss that all subcarriers are bundled and routed in one optical fiber path as bundled subcarrier (BS) approach. Wide spectral bandwidth of bundled subcarriers restricts the number of providable optical paths in entire network. We propose subcarrier aggregation (SA) approach employing the rate-adaptive forward error correction (SA-raFEC) for the efficient use of wavelength resources. Our proposed SA-raFEC approach splits bundled subcarriers and allocates them to different optical fiber path. Long distance routes can be utilized by adjusting FEC redundancy to further improve the accommodation efficiency of entire network. Simulation results show that our proposal improves accommodation efficiency in both core (JPN12) and metro (a part of JPN25) network topologies.
