Non-contact ultrasonic imaging system using time reversal

Abstract(in English) Ultrasonic imaging using a pulse echo is decreasing azimuth resolution and probe of device must contact with target. In this study, to resolve the problem, non-contact ultrasonic imaging using a time reversal (TR) signal is proposed and experimentally verified. In order to realize the TR non-contact ultrasonic imaging, effects of noise in the TR signal on the focusing of sound wave in time and spatial domains must be considered. Experimental results indicated that the excluding the noise increased the signal-to-noise ration of the focusing signal. Imaging brass plates with and without an appendage were carried out as an application of the proposed method. Obtained vibration distribution images indicated that the proposed imaging method can visualize a defect on a plate, however, reducing the bandwidth of the focusing wave is necessary to improve image quality.
