Respiration and body movement analysis during sleep using sensitive mattress based on hetero-core fiber optic sensor

Abstract(in English) This paper describes a sensitive mattress based on hetero-core fiber optic sensors with a superior ability for monitoring sleep state without constraint. Recently, unconstraint sleep state monitoring has been expected to help health management in daily life. In our laboratory, smart structures such as chairs and a bed has been proposed by use of hetero-core fiber optic sensors for detecting biological information and human behavior. Hetero-core fiber optic sensors can detect the deformation of the smart structures cause of the interaction between human and smart structure because it has high sensitivity to soft bending on a sensor portion. In this report, we demonstrate that the developed sensitive mattress could measure respiration and body movement during sleep without constraint. We compared a proposed sensitive mattress and a reference sensor in a viewpoint of sleep stage estimation, which confirms that the sensitive mattress can monitor the transitions of sleep state.
