Throughput Optimization Method and its Evaluation in Wireless Mesh Networks

Abstract(in English) Wireless mesh networks are the network constructed by connecting each node using wireless communications. It can reduce building costs and enable dynamical change of the packet route. In wireless mesh networks, capacity of the network can be improved by using multiple channels. As an example of such multi-channel wireless networks, a cognitive wireless mesh network using TV white space has been developed for efficient utilization of radio resources. In multi-channel wireless mesh networks, optimal routing avoids bottleneck links caused by the traffic congestion. Optimal channel assignment reduces interference of transmissions among base stations. In this paper, we propose a method to optimize routing and channel assignment for the wireless mesh networks. We evaluate the performance of the proposed method by computer simulation using several types of optimization algorithms. Furthermore, we implement a wireless mesh network running our proposed method using wireless LAN. Our experimental results show that the proposed method has effectiveness in a real system.
