Improvement Measures for 3D TDOA Localization by Using Height Information

Abstract(in English) TDOA (Time Difference of Arrival) localization estimates a target position from arrival time differences of radio signals detected by a number of ground receiver stations. It is desired for air traffic control surveillance system to provide aircraft surveillance with high performance compared with conventional Radar. WAM (Wide Area Multilateration) using TDOA localization is able to achieve the high performance and has been implemented in Japan. In WAM, it may be possible to improve 2D position accuracy in the horizontal plane by utilizing height information to the position calculation. This paper describes TDOA localization measures using height information and we show that our proposed methods could improve horizontal position accuracy compared with a conventional TDOA localization using computer simulation results.
