Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In recent years, development of ease-of-use consumer devices for measuring electroencephalogram (EEG) have opened a possibility of real-life application of brain computer interface (BCI). In the present study, we examined classification accuracy of a consumer EEG device as a preliminary assessment towards the BCI application, by using enhancement and suppression of alpha band power when normal human subjects closed and opened their eyes. We compared the classification accuracy by the consumer device and that by a research-quality EEG system under two bodily conditions of a seated state and a moving state (walking in a place), considering the use of the BCI in everyday life. As a result, the discrimination accuracy during the seated state was comparable between both EEG systems, whereas that during the moving state was lower when using the consumer device. It is suggested that displacement of electrodes of the consumer device during the body movement may cause the lower classification performance.
