Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In ultrasonic distance measurement by the pulse-echo method, the signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) of the received echo and the resolution of the time of flight (TOF) are improved by employment of pulse compression. In this research, pulse compression using a maximum-length sequence (M-sequence), which is one of the pseudo-random sequences, has been studied. An M-sequence is a sequential binary code which is generated from a linear feedback shift register (LFSR). In pulse compression using an M-sequence, the amplitude or phase of the transmitted signal is modulated by the M-sequence code. Then, the received signal is correlated with the M-sequence code. Furthermore, multi-channel concurrent measurement is enabled using transmitted signals which are coded by different M-sequences from different LFSRs. In the case of a lower-order M-sequence, however, the number of measurement channel, which is the kind of LFSR, is not enough. In this report, the method of coding of linear-frequency-modulated (LFM) signals, which is one of the frequency-sweep modulated signals, is discribed. The number of M-sequence codes which are taken from the M-sequence is sequence length. In case LFM signals are coded by these M-sequence codes, the coded signals can be used as different transmitted signals.
