Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, a lot of reports published the methodologies to estimate sleep stages with body movement, pulse wave, respiratory rhythm and heart rate variability during sleep. This study is to discuss the relationship between their autonomic nervous system activity with Tone-Entropy analysis, which is a kind of heart rate variability analysis, and sleep stages, estimated on the Rechtschaffen-Kales method from the biological signals recorded with polysomnography (SOMNOmedics Company Ltd. SOMNOscreenTM plus). Our results show that there is high correlation (γ=0.555) between entropy, which is an index of intensity of parasympathetic nervous system activity, and deep sleep rate. The fact indicates that the subjects, who have larger parasympathetic nervous system activity, have the high probability to generate deep sleep stages during their sleep. In conclusion, our results show that Tone-Entropy analysis may be a significant method for measurement of autonomic nervous system activity during sleep.
