Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We developed an artificial nipple with a built-in force sensor for dynamic measurement of the sucking mechanism of infants and measured the tongue-nipple contact force for about 100 infants in healthy, preterm and low birth weight categories. We found differences between infants with and without established oral feeding with respect to the maximum force applied by the tongue and phase differences. In order to favorably perform sucking, at least 8% of the sucking period is spent to moving milk from the tip of the tongue to the base of the tongue. Furthermore, the ratio of the force at the tip of the tongue to the base of the tongue must exceed 0.5 .
