Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The Tor network has its user grown by thousands every year. The increasing number of users around the world makes Tor become one of the widely used privacy network today. However, as the number of Tor user increases, the performance of Tor network degrades rapidly due to increasing circuit congestion. Tor fails to provide better quality of communication due to unfairly distribution of traffic load between the bulk and the light users. This problem contributed to throughput degradation and poor quality of services when onion routers were overloaded. To improve these problems, we proposed a simple method of dynamic circuit switching in the Tor application level to efficiently reduce the load in Tor output buffers and TCP socket buffers. By actively switching the bulk traffics at the circuit level to different TCP connection and higher capacity ORs, we were able to distribute the load efficiently with high fairness indexes for all bulk and light users. We evaluated the proposed method on our setup testbed experiment and partly in the live Tor network. Our experimental results show the proposed method achieves fairness in throughputs under multiple circuit flows.
