Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Previous physiological experiments on isolated salamander retinas suggested that spike firing latencies in a ganglion-cell population responding to a step stimulation of grating images can encode the spatial contrast pattern of the image. Although an abstract model of the retinal circuitry has been proposed to explain the experimental results in the previous study, it is still unclear if such a circuit mechanism of the latency coding fulfills the function even in a dynamic visual environment in the presence of, for instance, eye movements. Therefore, first, in this study, we carried out computer simulations with using the previously proposed model in order to quantitatively analyze how the parameters in the model are related to stimulus conditions for the circuit to be able to encode.
