Abstract(in English) | To improve wireless communication quality between an UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) and a ground station, especially for FPV (first person view) video from the UAV, this paper focuses on measurement studies using actual devices. For that purpose, we first attach a Raspberry Pi computer on an UAV, and activate its WiFi connection conforming to IEEE 802.11a with a ground station. We then evaluate effect of various factors on the communication quality through a series of field experiments, such as UAV’s height, attitude, orientation, LOS/NLOS environment, and transport protocols. We also provide two discussions based on the measurement results; relation between RSSI (received signal strength indicator) and antenna directivity, and undesired behaviors of TCP’s flow control which are caused by the fluctuation of wireless channel quality. |
