Analytical Evaluation of Maximum Likelihood Estimation for SNR

Abstract(in English) The estimate channel state information (CSI) take an important role in the adaptive communication systems, which change modulation, coding rate, or power dynamically. Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is a key pa- rameter in CSI. In this paper, the performance of the maximum likelihood (ML) SNR estimation method for PSK and QAM is evaluated analytically. The ML SNR estimation method employs probability density function (pdf) of received signal envelope, and is shown to yield the superior performance synchronization under unknown signal and noise power condition without carrier. The ML estimation methods yield the superior performance than the moment methods.
