Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) As an effective way to tackle the data-explosion problem, hierarchical storage systems composed of HDDs and SSDs are attracting much attention. For efficiency, these systems periodically move data across storage tiers based on their access frequency. In some cases, however, inappropriate timing of data-movement prevents systems from exploiting full efficiency. To confirm our hypothesis that the time intervals of each data (re)accesses contribute to an optimal timing of data-movement, we analyze access intervals on each disk block and each disk area, using the MSR Cambridge block-trace benchmarks. We also investigate data-relocation periods in hierarchical storage systems.
