Dynamic Control of Large Scale Optical Path Networks Utilizing Grouped Routing Optical Virtual Links

Abstract(in English) The continuous traffic growth drives the wide deployment of photonic networks. This growth necessitates not only extending the transparent transmissible areas but also enhancing fiber capacity. However, spectrum narrowing caused by traversing many ROADM nodes can deteriorate signal quality. To resolve this broad guard bands are needed. In this paper, we propose a novel optical network architecture that uses grouped routing optical virtual links, each of which can carry several optical paths, directly bridging distant node pairs. A virtual link is created using grouped routing at intermediate nodes, and hence broader bandwidth optical filter covering the grouped wavelength paths can be utilized and the spectrum narrowing of each channel is minimized. This routing scheme enables us to limit the number of hops for a path and to reduce guard band bandwidth. Numerical experiments demonstrate that the number of fibers is reduced by 23% compared with conventional optical path networks.
