Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A wireless local area network (WLAN) using millimeter wave (mmWave) communications is one of enablers of next generation wireless access networks since huge bandwidth is available in mmWave bands and it en- ables beyond Gbit/s communications. Although mmWave WLANs are very attractive for achieving very high PHY rates, mmWave communications are much more challenging than microwave WLANs since they have approximately 20 dB higher signal propagation loss than microwave and the signal strength decreases by 15 dB when the line of sight is blocked by human. This paper experimentally evaluates the PHY rate and the throughput performance of off the shelf mmWave WLAN devices that are compatible with the IEEE 802.11ad standard. Our experimental evaluation shows that the association can be established until the distance between an access point (AP) and a station (STA) is 27 m and even if a STA is located at the opposite side of the AP, the association still be established until the distance is smaller than 5m. Moreover, we simulate the propagation performance in the same situation of our experiments, and we confirme the validity of our experiments by comparing the results of experiment and simulation. We measured the average PHY rate with varying the angle between AP and STA, and this result shows the PHY rate is very low at the certain point. Our interference evaluation reveals a decrease of throughput and PHY rate.
