Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The goal of the current study is to construct a database useful to linguists whose analyses are based on ungrammatical sentences. The database to be explored is universal in that (i) ungrammatical sentences can be collected from any particular languages such as Japanese, English, (ii) the ungrammaticalness of each sentence can be experimentally examined by native speakers of any languages, using psycholinguistic techniques such as self-paced reading, eye-tracking, and (iii) the results can be open to linguists for their analyses taking any theoretical approaches to human language such as generative grammar, cognitive linguistics. In this presentation, I demonstrate the procedure for constructing an Ungrammatical Sentences in English (USE) database and analyzing it within the generative framework, and discuss its implications for further studies.
