Utilization of radiation pattern measurement of an embedded dipole antenna in an object for complex permittivity estimation of the medium

Abstract(in English) Embedding of a wireless sensor to various objects will be assumed in a UHF (Ultra High Frequency) band from now on. Therefore it's useful to estimate effective influence to the antenna embedded in the object by identifying effective complex dielectric permittivity of the object. In this report, we consider the book management in the library and the important documents management in the company in the UHF band, where the use of RFID and the wireless sensor is expected. A measurement technique of complex dielectric permittivity based on a radiation pattern measurement is proposed. The proposed method is demonstrated in the case that an antenna is embedded in a paper block. In addition, we suggested a suitable cost function to compare a radiation pattern obtained experimentally with that obtained numerically.
