Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We fabricated a fiber-optic distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) system using a narrow linewidth laser. DAS systems are classified to intensity-based and phase-based ones. The present system adopts phase and polarization diversity, and has four output signal channels so as to test both intensity- and phase-based methods. Moreover, we newly introduced Kalman filter phase unwrapping algorithm to signal processing of the phase-based method. Both methods were compared experimentally using a test fiber. It was confirmed that the phase-based method was superior to the intensity-based one because the former could detect acoustic signals in each position of the fiber while the latter could not in some positions since the intensity of the Rayleigh scattering changed randomly in the fiber.
