Rotational alignment of multi-core fiber using side cladding excitation

Abstract(in English) Connection of multi-core fiber require precise alignment of rotational angle of the fiber. We demonstrate on-site power monitoring technique for multi-core fiber connection. Light source is located at the fiber side, instead of the input end of the fiber. Monitor light is coupled to the cladding of the multi-core fiber using side cladding excitation technique. It was confirmed that rotational angle can be adjusted easily. This method can reduce positioning accuracy rather than using conventional side core excitation method.
