Abstract(in English) Mode-division-multiplexed (MDM) transmission using few-mode fiber (FMF) is considered a promising technology for dealing with the capacity crunch faced by optical fiber communication networks employing conventional optical fiber. In MDM transmission, mode dependent loss (MDL) results in a serious signal quality imbalance when modal XT coexists in a transmission line even if we employ MIMO DSP on the receiver side. In this work, we propose an equipartition multiplexing technique in which the power of the propagation modes is equally divided to each transmit channel with the aim of improving the system performance for MDL- and XT-impaired transmission. We experimentally investigate the effect of our proposed method where the transmission line has a relatively high MDL and XT.
