Message Rarity-Based Buffer Management Scheme for Store-Carry-Forward Routing

Abstract(in English) In sparsely populated mobile ad-hoc networks, store-carry-forward routing is one of the most important techinques. In order to reduce the number of messages undelivered to destination nodes (i.e., the loss probability), any store-carry-forward routing should be incoporated with a buffer management scheme when the buffer size is limited. The goal of buffer mangement schemes minimizies the loss probability. We propose a novel buffer management scheme based on message rarity. We regard a message as being rare if there exists only one copy (or its original one) in the network. By giving high priority to rare messages, the proposed scheme can avoid the extinction of messages in the network as much as possible. Through simulation experiments, we evaluate the performance of Epidemic routing with the proposed scheme and show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
