Evaluation of ARM-EMAX tightly coupled accelerator on Zynq

Abstract(in English) We focus on the data reusability of stencil computations on a previously proposed memory-network based accelerator, named Energy-Aware Multimode Accelerator Extension (EMAX). EMAX uses a distributed memory network and a corresponding functional unit (FU) network to exploit data reuse chance in stencil computations. In this research, we implement SoC that is ARM-EMAX tigtly coupled accelerator on Xilinx ZC706 board. We measured the execution time for the SoC with accelerator using five stencils calculation program. EMAX achives 63.1x performance of traditional system using external SDRAM. Additionally, by reducing the pre-processing by the host CPU, EMAX is estimated 1.2x performance of ARM processor only, despite the frequency of the EMAX is 12 times lower against ARM processor's frequency.
