Development of Molecular Orientation Control Method for High Efficient Fullerene-free Organic Solar Cells

Abstract(in English) Fullerene-free organic solar cells have emerged as promising cost-effective solar cells. Because fullerene is very expensive and has absorption of short wavelength, we must find the other lower cost materials. Subphthalocyanines used as n-type semiconductor in Organic solar cells have been reported. In this work, we tried to control molecular orientation by introducing CuI thin film. We found Pentacene molecular orientation is uncontrolled by CuI thin film. However, Pentacene film on CuI thin film was changed to be high crystalline nano particles. Due to high crystallity and nano structure, power conversion efficiency is 1.3 times higher than that of organic solar cells without CuI thin film.
