A study toward visualization of wireless communication quality in real environment

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we collect radio communication quality, generate a quality map, and evaluate its application to route navigation. First, we measure power consumption of smartphones using Monsoon Power Monitor inside a laboratory and derive an approximation formula which relates throughputs and power consumption. Next, we collect radio communication quality of outside by a developed smartphone application and visualize the quality on Google Map. Using this map, we manually select two routes that are expected to bring the highest and the lowest communication quality. We then evaluate QoS characteristics of 4K video streaming using MPEG-DASH on these routes. As a result, we will show that the good route can achieve 1.5 times higher throughputs than the bad route.
