Abstract(in English) This report discusses the performance evaluations of the helicopter obstacle detection small transmitting power 76 GHz millimeter-wave radar system. The purpose of the on-board radar is to detect and avoid obstacles such as high-voltage power lines and pylons that may affect flight safety. To improve the detection performance of the radar system, the radiation characteristics of the radar antenna and the front-end circuits of the radar receiver is experimentally investigated. In addition, the reflections from the high-voltage power lines and the high-voltage power pylons are measured at the ground test. Firstly, the primary source of the parabolic reflector antenna is varied to obtain wide elevation radiation patterns. The antenna with 10 mm conical horn feeding achieve 3.2 degree elevation half-power beam width while maintaining antenna gain about 38 dBi. Secondly, the radar receiver circuit is fabricated using the millimeter-wave low-noise amplifier. The measured results show between 5 dB and 10 dB RF-IF conversion gains and low distortion characteristics. Finally, the received beat signals at the field experiments confirm more than twice detection range compared these of the previous radar system.
