Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A function approximation method was developed taking generalization into account, and it was applied to a pattern recognition problem improving the recognition rate. First, the number of basis functions and their class were selected using a genetic algorithm, and the coefficients of a polynomial were calculated using multiple regression analysis. Next, the approximation error was evaluated using cross-validation, and the number of basis functions and their class were optimized taking the generalization and approximation error into account. Data obtained from a sensory evaluation was reproduced by the method from taste data measured using a taste sensor. The recognition rate for food was also improved using the reproduced data.
