Magnetic Pulse Seam Welding of Al/Cu Sheets using Flat Two-Turn Coil

Abstract(in English) This paper describes a novel welding technique of an Al sheet to a Cu sheet and its experimental results. When a discharge current from a capacitor bank passes through a flat two-turn coil, a magnetic flux is suddenly generated around the coil. Eddy currents are induced in the overlapped Al sheet and Cu sheet placed on the coil. The Al/Cu sheets have a gap between them. Electromagnetic force acts on the Al sheet and lets the Al sheet collide and weld to the Cu sheet. The bank energy required for this welding is less than 1.0 kJ and the maximum discharge current is less than 100kA.
