Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | The ability of hierarchical reasoning is important for understanding others’ actions in complex social relations, but its neural mechanism is unclear. We performed an experiment with fMRI scanning in order to examine whether there is the common neural mechanism of hierarchical processing underlying both language and inferring others’ actions. We found that the activities of bilateral cerebellum and precuneus were correlated with the depth of hierarchy in action inference, while the left-hemisphere language regions were specifically activated for hierarchical syntactic processing. This result indicates that the neural substrates of hierarchical strategic inference are distinctive from those of hierarchical processing in language. |
