Design of multi-step index few-mode fiber based on sensitivity analysis

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we study on the optimization method of few-mode fibers (FMFs) with multi-step index profile to reduce the differential mode group delay(DMGD) based on sensitivity analysis. Sensitivities of the propagation constant for the design parameters are obtained by taking the differential of the eigenvalue equation of the fiber modes and the computation cost of the sensitivity analysis is almost independent of the number of design parameters. In this approach, the FMF is initially designed by using particle swarm optimization (PSO), which can search global optimal structure, and the optimization based on sensitivity analysis, which can efficiently search local optimum, is followed to further reduce the DMGD.
