User Identification Based on Toothbrushing Information Using Three-Axis Accelerometer

Abstract(in English) The Japanese society has been aging, and the number of elderly cognitive disease patients has been increasing. The problem of the illness is that the symptom is going to be worse without recognizing, so we feel the necessity of early detection and prevention of that disease. In recent years, some researches reveal that there are relationships between cognitive disease and dental health. They tell that many of cognitive patients have few opportunity of toothbrushing and suffer from periodontal disease. We expect a potential that a symptom of cognitive disease patients affects the way to brush his teeth. However, the relationship between the way of toothbrushing and that disease is not clear. In this paper, we propose a method of user identifi cation based on toothbrushing information using three-axis accelerometer, which is the 1st step for establishment of a method to detect variation of toothbrushing. In our method, we extract 11 features from the information captured by three-axis accelerometer and use machine learning algorithm. The result of our experiment shows that we can identify users of toothbrushing perfectly. We reveal the existence of available features for user identi cation.
