Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Ultrasonic diagnosis of bone is more suitable for mass screening than that of X-ray methods, because it is non-invasive, low cost and easy to use. However, the poor measurement reproducibility due to the heterogeneity and the structural complexity is one of the problems. In this study, we focused on an effect of the heterogeneity on an ultrasonic wave propagation. A distribution of velocity in bovine cortical bone was measured and used for fabricating a bone model with anisotropy and heterogeneity. The ultrasonic wave propagation was simulated using an FDTD method. The simulation condition followed one of the diagnosis methods, Axial Transmission (AT) technique, which measures the ultrasonic wave propagating in the cortical bone. A comparative study of the propagation in a heterogeneous model and a uniform model was performed.
