| Abstract(in English) | The authors propose a method for automatically extracting and trackingan artery region in a ultrasound temporal image sequence of thearm or of the neck. In Flow Mediated Dilation (FMD) test, one needs to measure thediameter of the artery in an ultrasound image at each time in realtime in order to examine the vascular endothelial function. The measurements require appropriate positioning of the ultrasoundprobes and it is necessary to automatically extract the artery areafrom an ultrasound image at each time in the sequence for the aid ofthe probe positioning and for automatic diameter measuring. One of theproblems in the artery detection is that many anatomical structuresthat include the vein in a given ultrasound image would have similarshapes with the artery in a image. In this paper, the authors propose a method to automatically extractthe artery area using the difference in temporal behaviors of themobserved when the tissues are pressed by the probe. In addition, theauthors report the results of the performance evaluation with clinicalexperiments. |
