Influence of solvent evaporation speed on photovoltaic characteristics for electrospray deposition method

Abstract(in English) Arbitrary multilayer structures and nanofibers can be fabricated by an electrospray deposition method; therefore, this deposition method has been interested as a novel fabrication process for organic photovoltaic cells. In this research, we estimated the solvent evaporation time from the droplet size, the vapor pressure of solvent, and other relater parameters. In addition, the influence of solvent evaporation time on the surface morphology of organic thin film and the photovoltaic characteristics are investigated. Especially, the clear relationship is observed between the photoconversion efficiency of device with poly[4,8-bis(5-(2-ethylhexyl) thiophen-2-yl)benzo[1,2-b;4,5-b']dithiophene-2,6-diyl-alt-(4-(2-ethylhexyl)-3-fluorothieno [3,4-b]thiophene-)-2-carboxylate-2-6-diyl)] and [6,6]-phenyl C71 butyric acid methyl ester as an active layer, and the highest photoconversion efficiency of 5.2% was achieved by optimizing the evaporation speed of solvent in the electrospray deposition method.
