Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have proposed and implemented the User-PC computing (UPC) system as a parallel computing platform using idling computing resources or CPU cycles in personal computers (PCs) of members in the same organization such as a laboratory in a university. Previously, our implementation of both master and worker has used PCs with Linux OS. However, since a lot of PC users use Windows OS, the worker of UPC must support it. In this paper, we present an implementation of the UPC worker for Windows PC based on the implementation for Linux PC. In this implementation, we realize the CPU usage rate limitation, the automatic activation of the worker program at OS booting, and the background processing that are necessary to reduce loads of the PC owner, in addition to basic functions of communications with the master and job executions. Through evaluations, we show that the CPU usage rate does not exceed the specified limitation except for the starting time and the execution time at a Windows PC becomes about twice of that at a Linux PC.
